Sevierville Police Department Schedules Collision Avoidance Training for Young Drivers

Posted August 8, 2017

In an effort to improve the driving abilities and overall safety of younger drivers, the Sevierville Police Department (SPD) has scheduled a 12-hour Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) seminar on August 31 (4:45PM-9PM @ SPD) and September 2 (7:45AM-5PM @ the Sevierville Convention Center). The training is for drivers aged 16-20 years old who have a valid driver's license (participants are required to provide their own vehicle and have current insurance). The seminar is taught by SPD Officers utilizing a nationally proven program. The fee of $60.00 covers course materials and instructors. Registration is limited to ten students.

Patisipan yo pral resevwa alafwa kondui nan salklas ak pratik nan yon anviwònman kontwole lè yo itilize pwòp machin yo, pou yo ka vin abitye ak machin yo pral gen chans pou yo kondwi sou wout la. Nou tout aprann anpil leson ki gen anpil valè atravè erè, men klas la bay chofè yo opòtinite pou yo fè erè nan yon kou kondwi ki fèt ak yon enstriktè ki kalifye nan machin yo. Patisipan yo pral pi byen konprann limit machin yo ak pwòp kapasite kondwi yo.

Kontrèman ak pwogram kondwi debaz yo, patisipan yo pral resevwa ansèyman ak eksperyans pratik nan domèn sa yo:

  • Evasive maneuvers
  • Threshold/ Emergency braking
  • Forward serpentine
  • Vire
  • Fè bak
  • Skid recovery
  • Reverse serpentine
  • Off-road recovery

Fòmasyon an pral bay jèn chofè yo konesans ak konpetans pou yo vin pi an sekirite epi pou yo gen mwens chans pou yo fè eksperyans kolizyon grav.

"Because of the high traffic volume in our community, we experience a significant number of traffic collisions," said SPD Chief Don Myers. "The CAT program will improve the safety of our young drivers; I urge all parents to seriously consider this training."

Nationally over 60% of all new drivers will be involved in a crash within the first twelve months of getting their driver's license. Over 40% of those crashes will result in the driver being hospitalized.
